Valuation

Why should an item be valued?

This is a question we often get asked, because at an auction you find out the "real" price after the auction.

The answer, however, is very simple. By knowing in advance roughly what an item usually costs at auction, you can set a minimum price. Then you know in advance what the minimum price will be if the item sells (if it doesn't sell, it costs nothing, then you get the item back or we try the next auction with a reduced minimum price).

Another reason is of course to find out what you really have at home, to decide if you want to sell anything at all and if so, which items to dispose of and which to keep.

A third reason, which unfortunately usually comes up when it is already too late, is insurance. It is probably no exaggeration to say that the overwhelming majority have far too low premium on their home insurance. Should an accident occur, this becomes obvious as you would not get the full value of what has been damaged or even stolen.

Does a valuation cost anything?

If you email pictures or bring the item in to us and we do a quick assessment, it's free of charge.

However, if we carry out a written valuation, either on the premises or at home, in our capacity as a valuator for the Swedish Chambers of Commerce, we charge SEK 1,000 per hour plus VAT. It may cost a thousand or two, but compared to the time and money it saves in the event of an accident, it is money well spent.
