Valuation
Why have an item valued?
The question often comes up – especially since, at an auction, you find out the final price after the sale anyway. But there are several good reasons to have a valuation done in advance.
1. Set a lowest price
By getting an idea in advance of what an item normally costs at auction, you can decide on a lowest price. That way you know the minimum you can get from a sale. If the item does not sell, it costs nothing – you then get the item back or can try again at the next auction with an adjusted lowest price.
2. Get an overview of your home
A valuation helps you discover what you actually have at home. It makes it easier to decide whether you want to sell something and, if so, to choose which items to sell and which to keep.
3. Insurance and security
Another important reason – one that is often noticed only when it is too late – is insurance. Many people have home insurance that is set far too low. If misfortune strikes, you risk not receiving the full value of what has been damaged or stolen.
